Have you ever wondered what is it in your body that stimulates you to fall in love?

It is OXYTOCIN, also known as C43H66N12O12S2, which is causing this feeling in you! It is hence normal if you feel this tinge of nervousness or shyness when you see the boy or girl that you like.. because it is your hormone in you causing this effect!

OXYTOCIN is basically a short polypeptide hormone released from the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland. It is a mammalian hormone as well as a neurotransmittor in the brain. The structure of oxytocin is very similar to that of vasopressin. Oxytocin and vasopressin are the only known hormones released by the human posterior pituitary gland to act at a distance.

OXYTOCIN plays a role in several areas such as:

- uterine contraction during birth
- stimulation of milk ejection during lactation
- in social recognition and bonding between people
- facilitating of sperm transport within the male reproductive system
- a person's ability to mediate emotional experiences in close relationships and maintaining healthy psychological boundaries.
- causing the kidneys in our body to conserve water by concentrating the urine and reducing urine volume, hence reducing the excretion of urine slightly.
